We’re Going Electronic!!

At the Organizational Meeting in Omaha, the NASCOE Executive Committee reviewed several options for the distribution of the Annual Fall Mailing of NASCOE. It was decided to do a survey to determine the views of the membership regarding the cost effectiveness of sending the mailing to each county office. There was an overwhelming response that you preferred this information be distributed electronically to save NASCOE the mailing costs.

This new website contains many of the same items as the annual mailing, specifically those items that are required to be published according to the NASCOE Executive Policies. These required items include NASCOE’s Board of Directors (delegates), NASCOE Constitution and By-laws, and the NASCOE Executive and Travel Policies.

In addition to those listed above, NASCOE is also required to publish NASCOE’s policy for newsletter mailings to County FSA Offices:

NASCOE NEWSLETTER - Present policy is to mail the NASCOE newsletter to every county FSA office regardless of NASCOE membership within the county. In the past, some states have requested that the NASCOE Secretary remove specific counties from the mailing list to receive the NASCOE newsletter as no person within the county office is a NASCOE member, nor has been for one year or more.

The policy relative to removing counties from the mailing list to receive the NASCOE newsletter contains:

  1. No county office is to be removed from the mailing list except by written request to the NASCOE Secretary by an officer of the respective state.
  2.  No county is to be removed from the mailing list except when no person within the office has been a member of NASCOE (and the state association) for a period of at least one year excluding the year of the request.
  3.  The state association is responsible for notifying the NASCOE Secretary when one or more persons within a county which has been removed from the mailing list because of non-membership becomes a NASCOE (and state association) member and, thereby, becomes eligible to again to receive the NASCOE newsletter.

“IN MEMORIAL COLUMN” - In accordance with NASCOE policy, the “IN MEMORIAM” column will be continued in the NASCOE Newsletter and is to be limited to deceased FSA employees, retired employees and associate members of NASCOE.

SUBMITTING BIDS FOR FUTURE NASCOE CONVENTIONS – Bids for the 2010 National Convention must be submitted to the NASCOE Executive Committee by April 1, 2008. Specifications for bidding are contained in the Secretary’s Annual Report or may be obtained by calling or emailing me. Copies of a bid are to be submitted to the NASCOE President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer and the bidder’s respective Area Executive Committee Person.

NASCOE realizes the Fall Mailing Website is a change from what has been done in the past and as NASCOE Secretary, I would like your feedback, both positive and negative. Please forward your comments to me at secretary@nascoe.org.

NASCOE Secretary
